It's certainly entertaining watching Woking at the moment with goals a plenty. Having said that, there was nothing enjoyable about the first 20 minutes of today's game.
Glenn kept faith with the side who beat St Albans, but they started poorly. A cross form the Altrincham right, found an Altrincham player unmarked, but his header somehow hit the bar and bounced the right side of the line for Woking. However this did nothing to shake Woking out of a very lethargic start and a minute later they were behind. A Woking move broke down and Altrincham pushed forward. The ball was played to Bushell and he lobbed Jalal who found himself stranded on the 6 yard line. Surely now we would see Woking start to play the football that had seen them go on a 4 match unbeaten run.
Sadly not, instead it got worse. Woking looked out of ideas when they had the ball and after 18 minutes the defence caved in again. A nice Altrincham move resulted in a cross across goal. It seemed like either Jalal or McDonald could have easily cut it out but both stood still and it bisected them leaving Robbie Lawton unmarked at the far post and he smashed the ball into the Woking net. Things were looking grim for Woking who looked second best in all areas.
On the half hour, Woking finally used the pace of Lambu to good effect. He found himself in space and played a lovely ball to Nurse out on the right wing. Lambu continued his run, and Nurse provided the first of 3 assists - a lovely cross that Lambu volleyed past Coburn and into the net. Despite playing badly, suddenly Woking were right back in the game.
Half time came with the score still at 2-1 but I didn't feel too depressed. We had shown that we could penetrate the Altrincham, defence, the only question was whether our defence could improve to give us a platform to build on.
The second half started with Jackson on for Sole. Murray pushed into right midfield and Lambu switched wings to the left. Woking started brightly with Jackson and Murray getting plenty of possession and crosses in.
The equaliser came after a sustained spell of Woking pressure. Once again, Nurse found himself in space on the right hand side. He produced another quality ball across goal, which Lambu gratefully fired into the top of the net.
Woking continued to press froward and once again it was Nurse playing a crucial role. A good ball played him in down the Woking left and he chipped the ball back across goal, over the keeper, giving McAllister an open goal to head into - cue wild celebrations on the away terrace.
Woking continued to press forward and McAllister had 2 more chances, one of which narrowly missed the far post with the keeper beaten.
Altrincham didn't give up and there were one or two heart-stopping moments in the Woking defence including a shot that went narrowly wide in stoppage time, but the final whistle blew to give Woking another 3 points, and the unbeaten run continues.
