Who are they?
Tamworth FC was born in 1933 after the demise of Tamworth Castle FC and has been played at The Lamb starting out in the Birmingham Combination Leagues 1934. However, it was not until the 1960s when success came their way and the club won two league championships and numerous victories in the local County cups. They have also twice reached the 1st round of the FA Cup in their history, beating Torquay United on one of those occasions to go on to the 2nd round. When the 1970s came around, Tamworth went into decline as attendance levels dropped and there was a general struggle to keep the club alive. By 1984 a consortium of businessmen took over the club and Tamworth found their way back to the West Midland League. By 1988, they found their place back in the Southern League. That is where the team stayed and in 2001/02 season mounted a serious title challenge, only to beaten on the last day of the season. The next season saw them hit top spot in December and that's where they remained and now find themselves with the Big Boys in the Conference.
What's it like?
the main stand at tamworth [photo: tamworthfc.com]
When I went to the ground in 03-04 Season I was very impressed with it. It looks like they have had quite a big makeover at the ground as it generally looked new. The main stand is a nice tidy covered terrace that covers the half way line of the pitch fitting 426 supporters. The Meadow Street end is occupied by the away supporters; it is covered and is neatly broken up into little segments so you don't have to put up with looking at that bloke you hate the most.
