Profile:

Tony Thorpe was previously an experienced talisman, especially in his early career, with Fulham, Bristol City, and Queens Park Rangers. He started his career with Leicester City before moving to Luton Town in 1992. He made 93 league starts and 27 substitute appearances alone for the Hatters over six years scoring 50 goals and added 11 more in cup competitions. Fulham splashed out £800,000 for him but were quick to sell him to Bristol City for a cool £1 million after just 17 appearances and three goals.

After a succession of loan spells with Reading and old club Luton Town, he made 128 appearances for the Robins scoring a reasonable 51 goals over a four year period before he moved back to Luton on a Bosman free transfer in 2002. He scored 15 goals in his first season back before he moved to QPR for £50,000 and made 41 appearances for them, scoring ten times before moving in 2005 to Swindon Town after a loan spell at Rotherham United.

Since, he has had short stints with Colchester United, Stevenage Borough, Grimsby Town, Tamworth, and Barton Rovers but has not really settled at any of them. On the 1st September 2008, Kim Grant got him to sign for the Cards on a short term deal after his team had scored just four goals in the opening six games of the season. He made his debut against Lewes a day later but couldn't get on the scoresheet and Grant was sacked the day after. Thorpe has his contract terminated by mutual consent shortly after on the 5th September, lasting just four days at the club.
