Your Stories
If you have been touched by cancer in some way or if you've taken part in any similar fundraising events then I would love to hear from you. If you would like to add a story to this site please fill out this form and I will publish it on this page. Thanks to Sue Hurtley, who has sent in the first contribution.
Cancer Research is very dear to my heart, having lost to cancer 4 close members of my family, within a six month period. My Dad died in Sept. 2000. He lived all his life in Rotherham, S.Yorks and was a lifelong supporter of the local team Roth.Utd. In fact he had played for the boys team from the age of 11 and later joined them for two years as a 'semi-professional' (as they were in those days) when he left school. As you may know Roth. Utd. have spent most of their history in the 3rd/4th division and it became a long standing joke that whenever Dad returned from watching a match he would vow never to go again as they were 'rubbish' (he used to say that if he'd taken his boots he probably would have been offered a game!!).
When Dad died we buried his ashes in the goal area at Roth.Utd's ground - Millmoor. It poured with rain on the day but just as we re-laid the final piece of turf the sun came out and a huge rainbow appeared over the pitch! Since then Roth. Utd. have gone from strength to strength and are now in the 1st Division. We like to think Dad has had some influence - he would have been so proud!
