Fundraising Diary
19|06|03 - Tina and Helen's Car Boot Sale
I'm very grateful to Tina and Helen, who recently raised £100 for the fund at a car boot sale. Much better than the 50p I made when I made my one and only attempt at raising cash by the same means! Thanks girls.
12|05|03 - Thanks to Hurst Park School
Many thanks to the staff, children and parents of Hurst Park School, who raised £222.57 at a mufti day on Friday. Thanks also to my mum for helping to set this up! The total amount raised so far is now just under £4000.
15|03|03 - Elvis McCartney
The sales director at EMI has donated a framed picture of Paul McCartney as Elvis Presley, which has been signed by Paul McCartney himself. This is one of a limited number signed by Paul McCartney on the release of his album 'Run Devil Run', released 4/10/99. The tracklist included 'All Shook Up' and 'Bluejean Bop', thus picture title 'Elvis McCartney'. This should prove an excellent auction item, and I'm going to ring around to find out a suitable reserve price for it - details will be posted on here when I know.
15|03|03 - football from Stevenage Borough FC
Woking played Stevenage Borough on Saturday and I was presented with a signed football from their Supporters' Club, which has been added to the list of auction items. Thanks chaps!
10|03|03 - Laptop For Sale
My colleague Walter Rothon has donated an Auwa laptop for sale, model 862. It is about 5 years old and needs drivers, which can be downloaded over the web - it has 5MB onboard, 133 Mhz, ess sound and S3 VGA. If you are interested in purchasing the laptop then please contact me with an offer. Cheers Walt!
10|03|03 - Amateur Cup Final print
I am very grateful to Lynn Corbett, who has donated a print of a painting of Woking's 1958 Amateur Cup-winning side. The print was given to Lynn in recognition of all the work she did for WFC (she was one of the people who set up the Supporters' Club) and was one of only three in existence at the time (including the original, which hangs in the WFC boardroom). This will be auctioned for Cancer Research (if you are interested in bidding, please contact me).
21|02|03 - Kevin Betsy
Former Woking and Fulham player Kevin Betsy - now at Barnsley - rang today to offer a signed shirt for the fundraising. Thanks very much Kevin!
15|02|03 - More prizes donated
I haven't updated this site for a few days, but I'd like to thank Joyce and Len Matthews, who donated a signed Spurs football from the 1980s; FTFC Me (Glen) who has offered a signed Farnborough programme from the 1991/92 season and Worcester City FC, who have offered to donate a signed football.
08|02|03 - Scarborough FC
Scarborough chairman Malcom Reynolds gave me a signed shirt to add to the list of auction items this weekend when Woking played Boro at Kingfield. As I hadn't approached Scarborough I was really surprised - and chuffed to bits - with the gesture and I would like to express my thanks to Mr Reynolds and the club, a real credit to football.
07|02|03 - Gary Linkeker, FourFourTwo and Liverpool FC
I received a lovely letter from Gary Lineker yesterday in which he donated a signed running order from BBC's coverage of the 2002 World Cup Final as an auction item. FourFourTwo magazine very generously sent a prize pack, which includes various football DVDs and PC Games and a World Cup Final programme from 1966, signed by Geoff Hurst. Thanks very much to everyone; as I have said before, Carol would have been really pleased.
31|01|03 - Cambridge United
Thanks to Cambridge United FC, who have contributed two tickets for a match at the Abbey Stadium next season as a raffle prize.
30|01|03 - Aston Villa and Liverpool FC
Aston Villa have sent a signed photograph of Gareth Barry, and Liverpool have promised to send a signed photograph of a first team player as well. These will be added to the prize fund - thanks folks!
23|01|03 - Stacey Builders of Cranleigh
Thanks to Stacey Builders, who sent me a donation for Cancer Research yesterday. I was quite touched by this as (like most of the other generous people listed on this page) they don't know who I am, but were still kind enough to contribute, which means a lot.
22|01|03 - Wycombe Wanderers FC - signed shirt
The Football in the Community guys at Wycombe Wanderers phone me yesterday to say they will be sending a signed shirt in the post. Thanks chaps! Every time someone responds it's brilliant - Carol would have been so pleased.
22|01|03 - Middlesbrough FC - signed pennant
Thanks to Middlesbrough for sending me a signed pennant, which arrived in the post yesterday. The world of football is proving to be really supportive of my efforts so far and I am very grateful.
13|01|03 - Signed Pennant from Everton and an Umbro Watch from FourFourTwo
Everton FC have sent me a signed pennant to help with the fundraising, for which I am very grateful. After I wrote an article for FourFourTwo magazine a few months ago I received a brand new Umbro "Revolve" sports watch, which I also intend to use as a prize (these retail at around £70).
11|01|03 - Prize Pack from Radio 1
Pretend Woking fan Will Kinder of the Chris Moyles show on Radio 1 has agreed to send me a prize pack to help raise funds. I'm not sure exactly what's in it, but only 40 were made, which is quite nice! Thanks Will.
10|01|03 - Grateful Thanks to Woking FC
Woking FC, my own club, have been very supportive and I would like to thank Brian Blower and Chris Ingram for their help so far. A signed shirt from Woking has now been added to the prize pool, and the club is helping in lots of other ways too. Thanks again.
10|01|03 - Signed shirt from Fulham FC
Fulham FC have sent a signed shirt for a prize, for which I am very grateful. The support from the footballing community has been fantastic so far and I'm really chuffed!
06|01|03 - Grateful Thanks to Millwall FC
Millwall striker Neil Harris scored 25 goals in 1999/2000, winning the Player of the Year accolade that season and going even better the following term with 28 goals before being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Treatment was successful, and Neil made his comeback just before Christmas 2001, scoring his first Divison 1 goal at Watford on New Year's Day 2002. Millwall FC have kindly agreed to donate a signed shirt for the fundraising raffle, and I will be going to meet Neil at the Den when Millwall play Portsmouth on March 1st, 2003.
03|01|03 - Signed Football
Another prize has been donated to the raffle and it's a signed Woking FC football from the days when Woking were a good side! Many thanks to Lewis for his generosity, which has inspired me to add another signed football of my own to the prize pool - another Woking one, from last season.
24|12|02 - Glebelands School
Another person to thank - Mr Baker, headmaster of my old secondary school, Glebelands in Cranleigh. Mr Baker sent me a cheque on behalf of Glebelands as sponsorship towards this venture, which was a lovely gesture. Thanks, sir!
18|12|02 - Sponsored Walk
My sister Rachel Terry has agreed to help me by taking part in a sponsored walk to help raise funds. This idea was suggested in the Cancer Research fundraising pack and I shall be arranging this walk myself in the New Year. Details will appear on this site and anyone is welcome to take part!
18|12|02 - Another prize
Grateful thanks to Mark Doyle, who has offered to donate a framed Woking FC montage as a fundraising prize. Cheers Doylie :-)
17|12|02 - Big Lol To Donate Gloves
Former Woking keeper Laurence Batty has kindly agreed to donate a pair of signed gloves to the prize raffle. Thanks Lol!
14|12|02 - Prizes to be donated
Thanks to Ian Foster at MATCH Magazine and Jon Crampin at FourFourTwo, both of whom have agreed to contribute some prizes for a fundraising raffle I am planning. The raffle is pencilled in for March, and I will put more details on this site as and when I have finalised them.
12|12|02 - Events on the horizon!
Many thanks to Hurst Park School - who have agreed to have a non-uniform day sometime in the New Year to help raise some money - and to Woking Football Club, who have also said they will support my fundraising efforts in some way (more information about this in January). Also planned for January is a charity pub crawl at an as yet unspecified location near you...you have been warned! Meanwhile, and I'm going to be sweating it out at the gym tonight. The location of said gym will remain a secret for now so as to save my blushes ;-)
12|12|02 - Website launched
We're live! Becktreksperu.org.uk is launched, and this diary begins. Please keep checking this page as I'll use it to keep everybody up-to-date on how my fundraising and training are going. Once the money starts coming in, I'll keep track of it on this site as the amounts increase.
